Secrets of the Thousandaire Mind

Ah, the thousandaire mind set. Most of us have it. We fantasize about having millions but when it comes down to it, all we can really imagine is making a few extra thousand dollars a year. And as soon as we get some extra money? We buy toys. Stuff. Things. We waste money on lottery tickets. We pay our bills with credit cards but we pay CASH for crap.

Here’s how we think: “If I had a few thousand dollars extra right now, I could put a down payment on that car I always wanted.” Or how about this – “With only another 2 thousand bucks, we could take the family summer trip we’ve always wanted.” Maybe, “If I go back to school, I could get my degree and maybe land a new job which will pay me 5-10 thousand more a year. Then we could relax. Then we could afford to put that pool in the backyard.” “I really want a 52″ hi def T.V. and the surround sound system to go with it!” “Ooooh. Wouldn’t it be nice to have that dirt bike or 4 wheeler we need?”

See how we think? We think that this is the real world, where we only need a few thousand extra dollars to either get by or to live happy ever after. Everybody knows that we can’t become wealthy and live like the Trumps, the Kennedys, the Bransons. They’re different. They’re lucky. They’re cutting corners. They were born rich.

You want to know why you can’t become wealthy like those folks? I’ll tell you why. It’s the WAY YOU THINK, that’s why! No other reason. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with where you’re from, who your parents were, what your excuses are. Those wealthy people were taught to think differently than you were. You were taught to have a consumer mentality. They were taught to plan for the future and invest. You were taught wood shop and home economics. They were taught banking and real estate. They read books. You read the sports page and watch T.V. You hang around with your beer buddies and soccer moms. You have Tupperware parties. They have…I don’t know what they have. Cocktail parties? Polo parties? I dunno. The point is, they hang around with other wealthy successful people. Who do you hang with? What do you read?

All right, so let’s say you know all this but don’t know how to change your thinking. I mean, you’ve been like this all your life, right? You can’t change yourself overnight! That’s correct. You have to take small steps one at a time. What’s the first step you could take? How about getting the book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki and learning about money and how the rich people think of money? Perhaps “Secrets Of The Millionaire Mind” by T. Harv Eker. Education is always a good start. Next step? Dream bigger. Think of the home on the coast. Chartered jets. Vacations to Europe. A house in Europe! The key here is not to think of them as the future. Think of those things as if you are already on your way to achieving them. Now, stop wasting money around the house. Stop blowing it on things you don’t NEED except on those rare occasions where you reward yourself for getting a bit closer to your goals. And you should reward yourself for attaining goals.
BUT THIS IS IMPORTANT – set attainable, time restrained, short term goals. A goal like this might be to save $100 per week. Maybe save $50 per week. Then, as you accumulate several hundred dollars, use it to pay down a mortgage or a credit card balance. Cut up some credit cards. Why would you possibly need more than one or two? Teach your kids that they don’t have to have everything they see on television or at the store or even what other kids have. The best legacy you can leave your kids is an education on how to become successful and financially free, not how to keep up with the Joneses.
Begin learning about real estate and how to invest in it. Perhaps begin a part-time business where you get lots of tax breaks for you and the house that you wouldn’t otherwise get. Learn how to create residual income instead of trading your time for money.
In short – EDUCATE YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY!!!!

Time’s a wastin’. Life is short. Get started now. No matter what everyone else says, anything is possible if you know how to do it and if you don’t? Learn.

If you already have your own business, then one of the things you need to do to market that business is business networking. And to that end, you need to know how to do it effectively.
