Taking Care Of Business

How many of us are doing what we love, as opposed to having a J.O.B.? You know what I mean. When you were a kid you said, “I want to be a cowboy” or “I want to be a train engineer” or “I want to be a ballerina” or maybe “I want to be a cross-dresser.” And you women, how many of you wanted to be a fireperson (thought you were going to get me, eh?), a super hero, a baseball player? How many of us are actually living that dream and maybe even making money doing it?

Yeah, I figure about 14 of us, right? The rest of us are in a J.O.B. Oh, you may think you like your J.O.B., you may even have convinced yourself that this is what you wanted all along. And many of you may actually be making good money instead of just getting by. Then, there are those of us who own and run our own business. Or does it run us? And no matter what we do for a living, the government takes our money away and gives it to some incompetent nincompoop who has run his business into the ground, but because he has so many employees, the government feels that it is for the greater good to keep them employed.

It’s funny how the American Dream used to be owning your own home, spending time with your family, taking vacations together, driving a spiffy car. Now, the American Dream is having a roof over your head anywhere as long as it’s not cardboard, having a good credit rating, being able to pay your bills, having that clunker car paid off and repaired properly, seeing your kids on Christmas (if you have Christmas off) and maybe on their birthday, eating more than macaroni and cheese twice a week. No offense to Kraft. I happen to love macaroni and cheese. I like Vienna sausages, too. Have you ever put sliced Vienna sausages in your Kraft macaroni and cheese? Wow! I need to take a break here.

O.K. I’m back. (the sound of smacking lips in the background)

So what’s the problem here? We are out of control (as if we had some at one time). We are at the mercy of our employers, our government, our customers, our economy, our stock market. We seem to have no control over anything at all anymore!

BUT……..there is One Thing we still have control over. The One Thing that they can’t take from us. It is the One Thing that can make the difference between merely surviving and financial security. Living the old American Dream and more. Leaving a financial legacy to our kids. Going where our mothers-in-law can’t find us.

“What is this One Thing,” you ask?

Choices.

We still have control over our choices. We can, if we wish, take control of our financial futures. There is a growing industry in our country, no, in the world. Have you heard of it? It is called DIRECT MARKETING. You may be thinking, “Direct Marketing? Isn’t that like sending mail to people? Post cards, letters, flyers, that kind of stuff?”

Wrong! Direct marketing means people talking to people. One on one. There is another name for it that you may have heard. It’s called MLM, or multi-level marketing. “Holy crap!” you exclaim. “That’s a pyramid scheme! That’s what crazy people do! That’s high pressure sales, like a used-car salesman or something! Run for the hills! Hide your women and children! We’re all gonna die!” you are thinking.

GET A GRIP!

Let’s take the “pyramid scheme” part first. It’s not a pyramid scheme. It’s a pyramid stucture. Guess what? Almost every organization in the world, even Christianity, is a pyramid structure. You have one or more Big Kahunas at the top. Under them you have Smaller Kahunas. Under them are the Management Kahunas and under them are the rest of us, the peons. True or not?

Then there’s the “high pressure sales” part. There is only high pressure sales from the people WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY’RE DOING, and unfortunately, that’s a lot of them. Done correctly, relationships are formed. In most cases, long lasting relationships are created. It’s about people helping people, not “I need to make more money by you buying my stuff.”

What are some other objections? Well, what about, “I have to pay big bucks to join the company as a distributor.” Not always true. Like anything else, do your homework. YOU HAVE CHOICES. Then there’s, “I have to have a monthly volume of sales to keep my commissions.” Again, do your homework. There are companies out there that don’t require monthly volumes. YOU HAVE CHOICES. How about, “I have to store and deliver products from my garage. What a pain!” Guess what? It depends on the company. Do your homework. YOU HAVE CHOICES. Here’s the one that’s the most important. “How do I get paid?” DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! There are many different compensation plans out there. I know a lady who experienced about 4 of them before she found the right company. Unfortunately, she wasted many years and lot’s of money in her learning process. Don’t let that be you.

In conclusion, our choices and decisions are the One Thing that we can still control. If we haven’t yet, let us begin to make our choices wisely instead of REACTING to the world around us. Don’t get me wrong here, we need people who are working for companies that provide us with goods and services. However, if you are in a position where you can or want to begin to take control over your life, then examine your choices. Perhaps direct marketing is for you. Perhaps not. If you decide to dip your toe in the water, you can begin as a “side activity” for extra money and eventually work it as hard or as little as you want. There are big tax advantages here that you may not even have thought of. But the bottom line is, do your homework! I can’t emphasize that strongly enough. The company I represent is one of the best, and encompasses all of the best things about MLMs. If you would like to check it out, you can email me at steveblu1@gmail.com.  If you have ANY questions at all, email me at steveblu1@gmail.com. I’d be more than happy to show you what I’ve learned with my experiences.

Once you’ve made the choice to take control of your financial destiny, you may find that networking is the key to marketing your produce or service. So…how does one go about doing that? Please visit http://networkingfun.com/products-page/ to hear audio files that give you practical knowledge on how to accomplish this. It begins with creating relationships, either with people you already know or those that you do not.

  • Great blog. Do you know of any relevant forums or discussion groups?

Thanks for the compliment. There are some sites about networking – one is http://www.nurturingnetworker.ning.com, There is BetterNetworker.com, PerfectNetworker.com. What exactly are you looking for? Have you looked at Ivan Misner’s site (Business Networking International)? Or are you looking for something to get you out of the J.O.B. rut? You probably won’t find many forums on that but everyone and their dog seem to be pushing some sort of Multi Level Marketing business. We’re even in one ourselves but we don’t push ours. We have lots of business contacts here in Houston and several around the U.S. so if you can tell me what you need perhaps we can help. By the way, I’m curious as to how you came upon this blog site.
    Thanks for commenting, Sally!

  • Thanks very much for this fantastic post; this is the kind of thing that keeps me going through the day. I’ve been looking around for this site after I heard about them from a friend and was thrilled when I was able to find it after looking for some time. Being an avid blogger, I’m pleased to see others taking initiative and contributing to the community. I just wanted to comment to show my appreciation for your work as it’s very encouraging, and many writers do not get the credit they deserve. I’m sure I’ll be back and will send some of my friends.
