Timing Is Everything

Tick, tock! The clock’s ticking!
When someone leaves you a message, be it a customer, client, associate, your mother, whatever, how soon do you return your calls or emails? Within the hour? Before close of business? Before bedtime (theirs, that is)? Maybe this month if you’re not busy?
Well, how does it feel when someone does that to you, especially if you’re expecting a response? Not too good, does it?
This is part of your integrity lesson for today. When someone calls or leaves you a message that asks for or requires a response, commit to getting back to them within 24 hours. Even if it’s just to say that you don’t have an answer to their question or that you can’t talk at length but you’re letting them know you got the message and will get back to them as soon as you can. That’s all it takes. Just a small acknowledgment and you will gain “points” in their mind forever. Business is about relationships and this is a simple way to build a good one.
This is not rocket surgery, folks. It’s just treating people like you want to be treated – with respect and value. You’ve heard that timing is everything. Well, in this context that is the truth. Timing can make the difference between a good business relationship and a bad one. And that, of course, translates into money gained or lost.
